On a sunny Saturday in June 2022 over 300 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Young Leaders, Adult Leaders, Trefoil Guild, Parents and invited visitors attended Girlguiding Dundee’s Platinum Jubilee Party at Dundee University’s Student Association.
Everyone enjoyed craft activities making crowns, flags and edible campfires, outdoor games, a dressing up photo booth, dancing through the decades with Hazel Lusby and of course a campfire singalong at the end led by Outdoor Advisor Ali Niven.
We were delighted to be joined for the day by Deputy Scottish Chief Commissioner Carol Morwood. We were also joined by a number of special visitors who have all been recipients of the Queen’s Guide Award over the years. Altogether there were 26 Queen’s Guides including current Girlguiding members. One of our guests had even travelled over from the USA to attend! They had a wonderful time – in some cases meeting up with old friends, reminiscing over guiding memories and enjoying the singing at the end. Afterwards they joined us for a cup of tea and cake made by our very talented CC Amy!
A number of leaders received Long Service Awards and Thanks Badges were given on the day to Jackie Hall for her role as Division Commissioner and Janet Muir for her role as Outdoor Advisor. After the event Ashley Whitehouse received a Thanks Badge for her role as Newbigging Committee Chair.
And a surprise presentation of a Scottish Chief Commissioner’s Award was made by Carol Morwood to Anne Coleman, to recognise her many roles, quitely undertaken, within Girlguiding, Trefoil and the community of Dundee.
Huge thanks to everyone who was involved in organising the event and to the DUSA staff for making sure we had all the facilities we needed for the day.
